ShowMe is an application created for the iPad that allows the user to create lessons or tutorials on a whiteboard, and record it to a video . The application’s simple design makes it easy to use for both teachers and students. ShowMe is available for free on the ipad, and there is no limit on what you can teach or create.
In addition to the creation aspect of this application, ShowMe has created an online global community for it’s users. Teachers, parents, and students can post their lessons, tutorials, or videos to the online ShowMe community where it can then be utilized by everyone. This form of community file sharing is a great way for students to showcase their work. It also provides a great database of information for teachers to utilize. You can watch a video to refresh your memory on a topic you will be teaching, use it to introduce a concept to your students, or post the videos online for your students to use as an at-home resource. ShowMe videos can be incorporated into powerpoint or Prezi presentations. Teachers can also create student accounts so that they can monitor their classroom's activity.
Students can use the application to watch videos on topics they are learning about in school, watch tutorials for help on at-home assignments, create video projects that showcase their interests, or demonstrate a particular concept to their peers. Students have the option to draw on the whiteboard, upload pictures for their presentations, and voice record directions. Videos can be uploaded to the public, or used privately if you do not want them to be seen by others. By incorporating the ShowMe app into your classroom, you are providing students with a rare opportunity to create something without limitations. Being offered this free choice and creative outlet is enough to excite and engage your students.
Hi Laura! What a great tool! I know we have mentioned in class, the idea of posting videos or tutorials to sites, etc. for students, and I always thought that was great. This takes it to a new level though. I didn’t realize you could do so much with it. I will admit that I am probably not the most tech-savvy of people, so for people like me, the simpler, the better. I love that this is so easy to use, and I appreciate its many uses! Originally I would have imagined using this just for homework purposes, but you bring up the idea of video projects or presentations, and those seem like great ways to use this, too. Also, the creative aspect is great. I would love to use something like this in my ELL class, I think it would be ideal for language learners. Thanks for sharing this, I didn’t know about it!
ReplyDeleteThat rocks! I always hated in school when I KNEW FOR SURE what the teacher was talking about in class (usually math) and then I got home to start the homework and was clueless. I couldn't figure out what my notes were telling me to do and I was so confused. Then I would have to Google "how to:", read the book, or call a friend or, worst case scenario, go in and see the teacher in the morning. Absolutely awful. Anyway, this would be awesome for a math class and a great resource for students, parents, and teachers!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you choose to talk about this app. I have just recently heard of this app through one of the teachers I know, but I had not yet gotten a chance to check it out for myself. However, through reading your blog post, this app sounds like a good one to have in the classroom. By having students use this app they are able to create authentic work. I think students would have a great time being able to use this app to create some type of “project” and would enjoy being able to showcase their project to their class or even globally. Thanks for sharing!
Laura,
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this app, but you have certainly peaked my interest! It sounds incredibly versatile and easy to work with. I love that the videos are easy to upload, share, and present. I was really blown away when you mentioned that the videos are able to be uploaded into Prezi and Powerpoint! I plan on downloading ShowMe to my personal iPad so that I can become familiar with the program and hopefully incorporate it in my classroom!
